Quality Control (Q.C.) Laboratory Technicians are responsible for maintaining quality assurance processes, testing of products, and recording and analyzing results gathered during product development and production. Q.C. lab technicians can be found in different sectors like manufacturing and food processing. They work to ensure that production or manufacturing processes and products created meet the quality specifications that are laid out by the company and federal and state health and safety standards.

Collect regular samples for shelf life and analysis at the laboratory

Conduct standardized tests on food, beverages, and additives

Identify any product imperfections using chemical analysis or mechanical or electronic equipment

Record and compile all test results and report all product inconsistencies or variations

Maintain records of testing results or other documents as required by state or other governing agencies

Ensure there is quality testing at all times and carry out inspections so as to meet the standard set by the company

Encourage and enforce cleanliness on the part of the staff to ensure safe working conditions

Focus on corrective actions in order to make sure the products meet required specifications

Education/Training Requirements

Most employers prefer applicants to have a four-year degree and one to two years of experience but this is changing, if the two-year educational program targets the necessary knowledge, and laboratory skills for these positions. Some employers prefer to hire quality control technicians who are certified (i.e. American Society for Quality).
