Truck drivers efficiently pick up, transport and safely deliver feed, ingredients, equipment, materials or livestock to processing facilities. They accurately complete delivery forms and forward the documentation for timely processing. Furthermore, they perform a pre-trip inspection that includes tires, fuel, oil, etc. They also monitor the conditions of the livestock on the trip and take appropriate action.

Observe all government and company regulations at all times

Ensure that the tractor and trailer is cleaned and maintained in a safe working manner

Perform a pre-trip inspection that includes tires, fuel, oil, etc.

Check, before loading, to ensure that the compartments are free of feed or ingredients

Ensure that the tarp cover is securely fastened and protecting ingredients from contamination
-
Collect samples of ingredients for quality assurance testing

Complete delivery forms and forward the documentation for timely processing

Load and unload trucks when at a destination
-
Drive livestock to and from market/slaughterhouse and the farm
-
Monitor the conditions of the livestock on the trip and take appropriate action

A high school diploma and a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) certification is required. Additional certifications may be required depending on the product you are transporting.

The future outlook for truck drivers is projected to be good to excellent as the demand for farm goods increases. In New York State in 2016, there were over 65,590 registered CDL drivers. In 2026, there are projected to be 70,050 CDL drivers. That is a 7% increase in available jobs.
